Turning Thirty

Turning 30 seemed very significant back then when it happened. Like every other step in life - examinations, moving out of your parents house, buying your first car - it's much more significant for the person doing it than every one else around. I had people telling me turning 30 was nothing, "just wait 'til 40" and unhelpful stuff like that.

But turning 30 was significant. I know this because someone wrote a book about it. There you go naysayers - there's a book so it must be important!

At first Turning Thirty seemed a million miles away from my experience, but the more I read, the more I recognised. Sure the guy's career was totally different from mine, his friendships were totally different from mine, but what made our different journeys to 30 OK was the philosophy.

If you are having a 1/4 life crisis, Turning Thirty is the book for you. It keeps you calm.

Thanks to David for the present. Thanks to Émilie for the recommendation.
