Regular dinner guests and regular readers of my blog know that I enjoy cooking and hosting. I wish to point out at this juncture that I started sharing some of my cooking exploits before I saw Julie and Julia at the cinema. I think 524 recipes in 365 days is a bit abmitious for me anyway. Admirable, but too ambitious. I am happy with a couple of recipes every now and again, and mostly at school holidays.
Yesterday I tried Cheesy Leek Couscous Cake. I innovated at the outset, making mine Cheesy Leek and Bacon Couscous Cake. I chose not to photograph this one, and it was just as well since the finished product was not pretty. The principle problem was that when you are supposed to 'slide' it off the pan it didn't want to slide, or flip... it wanted to be scraped. The secondary problem is that the little bits of couscous get everywhere. At least when I cook with a smaller number of larger ingredients its easy to keep track of them as they fly off the cooker... but with a huge number of tiny couscous bits flying back and forth it was a battle lost before it was begun. It got everywhere. I think to improve things a bit for next time, I'm going to try making it in individual serving dishes, and then it wont need flipped.
Tonight I'm trying that thing off the TV where you put philadelphia in a chicken breast. Thanks for the idea Philly, but I'm sorry to tell you I bought a supermarket brand alternative. I'll let you know how it goes!
TTFN.
I make a mean chicken, ham and mushroom pie with Philly cheese...mmm mmm!!
