Big steaks and little acts of kindness

Well those of you who also follow my exploits via facebook will be aware that I ate the biggest steak ever yesterday. I really feel the need to start today's post with a picture of the massive meat.

When we do the weekly shop, Dee and I usually plan a few meals together and a few meals apart. While I was debating over the sausages to accompany my spanish roasted vegetables for Wednesday night, Dee went ahead to pick up the steaks for dinner that night. I didnt see them until we got home. Quite frankly I am surprised we could carry the bags.

So here are the two steaks in the pan...

Now for those of you who need a little perspective to judge the size of the steaks, here is something to compare them with...

And just to be clear - my hand was closer to the camera than the steaks (the pan was hot already and I didnt fancing searing my hand along with the sirloin) and so my hand appears a little bigger than the steaks... if you aren't clear about the physics here, watch this little lesson from someone who knows...

So my hand is small, the steaks are far away...

Anyway needless to say dinner was delicious. The steaks were accompanied on the plate by boiled potatoes, fried onions, and delicious broccoli and carrot.

Vegetarians can open their eyes again now, as our foody theme moves on to meat free (literally, if not metaphorically) items. Two colleagues at work bought Paul and I a gingerbread man decorating kit as a thank you for a favour, and after a hectic schedule today Paul cheered me up with this little tasty treat;

and then he made this gingerbread woman for Christine...

All this after presenting me this morning with a draft excluder - one of those "I saw this and thought of you" gifts. The really observant among you will realise this means I will not be taking up the Draft Excluder Challenge from January. Thank you Paul for your little acts of kindness today.

Homework Activity
I promise I wont do this every time, but I would like to ask my readers to post a comment today. What was the last little act of kindness you performed for somebody, or somebody performed for you?

Recommended music while you think about your homework; Lucky Jim - You're lovely to me (I have to say I love the video for this too!)
