Snow Day!

I can remember so many occasions as a child returning home from school on a freezing cold day and seeing the news about hundreds of schools closed in England because of the snow. There'd be children making snowmen and having snowball fights, and we would never have any snow in Carrickfergus. No snow, no play, but lots of schoolwork to do. It just wasn't fair!

On moving to work at a school in England, I confidently expected that the school would close at the first sign of a snowflake on the horizon. It was not to be. Not only is the school located in an area that doesnt get snow often, but also the school attitude is to persevere come hell or high water.

I can remember so many occasions as an adult returning home from school on a freezing cold day and seeing the news about hundreds of schools closed in England because of the snow. There'd be children making snowmen and having snowball fights, and we would never have any snow in Liverpool. No snow, no play, but lots of schoolwork to do. It just wasn't fair!

But at last my dreams have come true. For the first time in my lifetime (apparently) my school has closed in exceptional circumstances. I made it all the way in before finding out we were closed on Tuesday, we have stayed closed today, and we will be closed again tomorrow.

Just one problem. I'm bored. I've taken the Christmas tree down, hoovered around, done the dishes, done three loads of laundry, updated all the websites, tracked every single movement on facebook, defrosted the wheely bin lid and watched a documentary about the late Pope John Paul II. Hopefully I can go back to work soon!
